UPPER ROCKRIDGE

Oakland’s Upper Rockridge is tucked away above Broadway Avenue and boasts some of the city’s most luxurious homes. You’ll find older, Mediterranean-style estates, midcentury modern homes, contemporary houses and newer, custom showplaces. Terraced gardens, sustainable plantings, stunning views of the Bay and San Francisco skyline, and roads that follow the rolling hills all define this affluent Oakland community. There is no question why this is one of the Bay Area’s most desirable neighborhoods.

Upper Rockridge truly comprises the best of what Oakland has to offer but maintains its small, community feel. While still within walking distance to the boutiques and restaurants of Rockridge and the vitality of Berkeley’s College Avenue, there is an astonishing sense of privacy. Tree-lined streets with historical homes provide the setting for a commuter’s paradise. Upper Rockridge has a nearby BART station in Rockridge, which is the epicenter for commuting to Walnut Creek, San Francisco or Silicon Valley.

 

ROCKRIDGE

Oakland’s Rockridge neighborhood consists of a nice mix of residential and commercial areas.  It hosts a bevy of restaurants, specialty shops, and boutiques that continue to attract families, hipsters, college students and young professionals.

Just south of Berkeley, the area is home to many families who enjoy the charming houses and tree-lined streets while still being close to its vibrant commercial district, and convenient transportation. There are relatively large homes built in the early 1900’s, as well as historic, small bungalows and cottages. Rockridge attracts many young families due to the award-winning schools. In 2012 Chabot Elementary School earned a state Academic Performance Index score of 952 out of 1,000. There are also several private school options nearby, including the Bentley School (K-12), Park Day School (K-8), and The College Preparatory School (high school).

Young professionals appreciate the proximity to BART and the energetic atmosphere. You can’t mention Rockridge without acknowledging Zachary’s Chicago Pizza, a true Oakland mainstay. The neighborhood is also home to many gourmet restaurants, bars and specialty shops such as Wood Tavern, Oliveto, and Market Hall.
